Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes! We are accepting new equine, beef cattle and small ruminant patients. Please note as we are a mobile only practice you will need to have adequate handling facilities for the procedure being performed. If you aren’t sure what we need, give us a call to ask!

We do not currently see dogs, cats, swine or exotic animals.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Taber Alberta and serve clients in the MD of Taber, Lethbridge County, County of 40 Mile, Cypress County, County of Warner and more. If you don’t see your area listed give us a call to see if we  travel there.

What can we expect during our appointment?

Our vet will arrive at the farm at your scheduled appointment time (we will call if we’re running late!) with all the equipment needed to care for your animal. Having your animal caught and adequately restrained before we arrive will help your appointment run smoothly. If power, heat or anything else special  is required we will let you know when you book your appointment. Our vet will examine your animal, perform diagnostics if needed and provide the necessary treatments, answer any questions you have and will leave instructions for any needed follow up care.

If you have questions after we leave, our vet is just a phone call away and will be happy to answer any follow up questions or concerns.

How soon after we call will our animal be seen for an appointment?

Appointments are scheduled based on the severity of the animal’s condition and veterinarian availability. Animals with conditions deemed to be serious, requiring emergency care will be seen as quickly as possible the same day. Animals who are sick but do not have a condition requiring emergency care will be seen within 1-2 days.

Please call at least two weeks ahead for  routine, non-urgent appointments such as dentals, castrations and pregnancy checking during our busy spring and fall seasons.

Can we buy vaccines, antibiotics and other drugs from you?

In order to prescribe and dispense any pharmaceutical products to your animals a valid VCPR (Veterinary Client Patient Relationship) is needed. A VCPR is established through our vet examining your animal(s) and becoming familiar with you and your farm. In order to maintain a VCPR our vet needs to see your animals at least once per year. Once a VCPR has been established our vet can issue prescriptions and dispense pharmaceutical products as needed.

What is your payment policy?

Payment is due at time of service for all new clients. We can take payment from major credit cards and debit cards on the farm. We also accept cheques, cash and e-transfer.

Do you offer emergency services?

A vet will be available for after hours emergencies 24/7 every day of the year. For bovine & small ruminant emergencies please call 403- 654-3347. For equine emergencies please call 403-741-7271.

As we are a single vet practice, Dr Kristy Oatway will not always be available- if she is away we will make sure you are well cared for with one of our trusted veterinary clinic partners.

Do you take students?

We love to teach and show students around our corner of the veterinary industry. Whether you are a highschool student just feeling out potential careers, a veterinary technician student seeking a practicum placement or a veterinary student looking at externships we would love to have you! Please contact us for more information.
